Dan Franzke – BSc (Hons)TCM: Acupuncture; Dipl. TCM Herbal Medicine; Dipl. Tui Na

Living and working in Taiwan for five years, where acupuncture and traditional medicine are part of the national healthcare system, was the initial spark that started Dan on his path to study traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

In 2008, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in TCM: Acupuncture after three years of full-time study at the University of Westminster in London. His training included over 400 hours of supervised clinical practice.

To further deepen his knowledge of East Asian medicine, Dan studied traditional herbal medicine for two years under Professor Shulan Tang, who is a graduate from two of China’s most prestigious traditional medical schools in Beijing and Nanjing.

Dan has interned in two NHS acupuncture clinics: the Gateway Clinic in Lambeth (Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust), and at St Leonard’s Hospital in Hackney.

To complement his knowledge of traditional acupuncture with the modern, evidence-informed aspect of this therapy, Dan became a member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) in 2019. He integrates the best of both worlds: traditional expertise from centuries of combined experience of previous practitioners and contemporary insight gained through scientific research and evidence evaluation.

Dan is bilingual in English and German and has a working knowledge of French and Mandarin Chinese. He is passionate about Thai, Chinese, and Italian cuisine, enjoys blues music, practices tai chi and loves to read.

Dan’s approach is to treat the individual person and not just the disease. Optimal treatment results are only achieved if a person’s unique circumstances (constitution, health history, lifestyle etc) are considered. The ideal treatment is a harmonious balance between the patient’s wishes and preferences and the practitioner’s expertise. This cooperation may lead to the best possible outcome, helping the patient with their specific situation.

Dan utilises an integrated, pragmatic approach to treatment. By making use of both the contemporary evidence-informed and the traditional schools of acupuncture, he aims to provide the best possible patient care.
